On October 22, 2024, the "5th GAC Honda Road Safety Innovation Competition", hosted by GAC Honda, concluded successfully in Guangzhou. The competition brought together 10 teams from six prestigious Chinese universities, including Tongji University, Jilin University, and Tianjin University, for a thrilling showcase of speed and intellect. In the finals, our university’s teams delivered remarkable performances:
"WUT Hyper Sonic Team" secured 3rd place overall and won the Best Exterior Design Award.
"Pursuit of Excellence Team" and "Triple-A Team" (literal translation of "好好好对对队" with a creative twist) ranked 4th and 8th, respectively.
The delegation from our university, led by Professor Li Shuni from the School of Automotive Engineering, comprised 11 students from the School of Automotive Engineering, School of Automation, and School of Mechatronics Engineering.
The competition featured a single track themed "Automotive Safety for Mobility", adopting a "time-limited mission-based format". Each team was required to complete a round-trip patrol line and challenge mission tasks within a set timeframe, with final scores determined by expert evaluations. Additionally, the Best Exterior Design Award was decided by on-site staff voting, awarded to the team with the highest votes.
During the event, over 10 students from our university collaborated closely under the meticulous guidance of their advisors, overcoming numerous challenges. Through days of intense preparation, the teams tirelessly debugged their smart vehicles and dedicated themselves to ensuring peak performance. Ultimately, all three teams completed the competition successfully, embodying the "relentless pursuit of excellence" spirit of our university’s students.

Every participant not only chased speed and dreams but also upheld the principles of safety and innovation. Road safety is a mandatory lesson for all. Since 2020, GAC Honda, in partnership with CATARC (China Automotive Technology and Research Center), the Decade of Action for Road Safety, and the Road Safety University Alliance, has organized this competition to provide students with a valuable platform for growth. The success of the 5th edition marks a proactive exploration and significant step forward in raising public awareness of road safety. We believe more people will join this cause to foster a safer and more orderly traffic environment in the future.
